Wedding Invitations - When to Send Them Out

Ideally you should post your wedding invitations approximately 6-8 weeks before the big day.

Eight weeks would be preferable as this gives guests plenty of time to make any necessary arrangements such as travel and invites

Usually an RSVP card is sent with the invitations and to allow yourself enough time to inform relevant parties of final numbers such as the wedding venue, caterers etc it is best to set an RSVP date 3 weeks before your wedding day. This allows guests plenty of time to receive the invitations and return the reply card to you.

If you have chosen to send save the date cards then guests will have already put the date in their calendar and are just waiting to receive the formal invitations. Save the date cards come in handy if you are planning a destination wedding or something a bit more unusual. Different time rules apply to destination weddings and in order to ensure most of your nearest and dearest will be with you on your special day you will need to inform them of your wedding date up to 6 months, perhaps even a year in advance.
Ordering and printing your wedding invites nowadays is easy and convenient. Invitations can be printed by a traditional printer specialising in the wedding area or alternatively they can be ordered online. There are many websites offering a beautiful range of wedding stationery which can be ordered online and delivered to your door in a matter of just a few days. wedding invitations
Before you may have been required to place an order 4-5 months in advance of the wedding but new, improved printing technology has made this task much easier. Just make sure if you are ordering online you proof read everything carefully before confirming your order.
Some websites allows you to order personalised samples so you can receive a hard copy proof and double check everything beforehand. Most also have complete wedding stationery sets from invitations through to menu covers, place cards and thank you cards allowing continuity of your chosen theme and colour scheme.
Finally, once the wedding day is over and your feet have touched the ground from your honeymoon it’s time to thank your guests for their wedding gifts and well wishes. Etiquette usually specifies sending wedding thank you cards no later than 3 months after your big day. However, guests will always be delighted to receive a card and the acknowledgement recognition so if you find yourself pushed for time just remember it’s always better late than never!
